The built environment may be considered as that which has been altered by man.

Environmental change, beyond the ebb and flow of tides, requires industry of some sort. Whether that be heavy, sustainable, or other, communication and transport are integral to how that change occurs. Sometimes we have the luxury of retrospectively seeing how we, as people, have travelled through time.
